Charity

Solidarity has no boundaries. Not geographical, nor political, nor religious. It cannot afford sector-based approaches or to be limited in scope.
With this principle deeply rooted in its essential values, Finmeccanica directs its own charity activities, necessarily in the plural, to wherever needs are most urgent and evident - such as the case of Aids-ravaged Africa or the reconstruction following the tsunami in South East Asia - and in support of 'lesser' situations just as worthy of care, attention and broader treatment.

The actions which Finmeccanica generates on its own behalf as a company, keeping faith with a role of active participation and sensitive to social issues, are often based on a relationship of collaboration and mutual trust with bodies active in the field of solidarity, such as the Comunità di Sant'Egidio and the International Childcare Trust, whose history is eloquent in terms of passion and reliability.

What Finmeccanica does directly in regard to solidarity and social support will be supplemented by on-going, productive work in raising the awareness of the people who work for the Group. As well as the increase in direct support for a number of emergency situations, this has the result of spreading a mindset, and ensures that the undertaking of a company becomes, in the day-to-day manifestation of things, the inheritance of the men and women who work there, the companion of awareness and desire, multiplying their energy.

The initiative was a huge success thanks to contributions from the employees of all Group companies and from senior managers, who donated part of the supplementary pension fund for the period April-December 2009 to the project.

Finmeccanica raising funds for Haiti

Washington, DC - 22 january 2010

The recent tragedy in Haiti has left its capital city of Port-Au-Prince a disaster zone with countless numbers of its population displaced.

The latest estimates put the death toll at an astounding number. During this trying time, Finmeccanica is committed to raise crucial funds that will help assist the long and difficult relief process.

In the beautiful location of the Petit Palais in the heart of Paris, was held the Finmeccanica Gala evening during the 48th edition of the Paris International Air Show- Le Bourget. The "Petit Palais - Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris", created for the Universal Exposition of 1900 as a city museum, has been turned into the African bush with music, food and thematic atmosphere.

Owerri Science Festival

Owerri, April 24 2009

There is a day when a project stops being an idea and becomes a tangible reality - such a day was April 24 in Owerri, Nigeria, when the country's first Science Festival opened, backed by funding and support from Finmeccanica. To understand the importance of the event, we should point out that the Owerri Science Festival is unprecedented in the history of this African country. Far from being a one-off event, it marks the start of a project to build a centre for teaching and spreading scientific knowledge - the Assumpta Science Centre - which is intended to be a permanent structure for professional and technical training throughout the area.

A week after the launch of the "Finmeccanica for Abruzzo" initiative, Finmeccanica informs that good results are already being achieved, thanks to the contributions from Group companies based all over the world, particularly in Italy, France, UK and the US. A significant contribution will also come from Group Managers, who are donating a portion of their Complementary Pension Fund to the initiative.

Mwana Simba, Finmeccanica for Africa

In ancient Roman times, maps of the unexplored areas of Africa and the Middle East bore the Latin phrase "hic sunt leones" (there are lions here) - the Roman way of saying that they knew little about the flora and fauna of the area beyond the intuition that there would be wild animals. Some scholars say that the Romans continued to use this phrase following the wars with Carthage, not so much to indicate unknown places, but rather out of respect for the enemy encountered in Africa, who had proved as difficult to defeat as lions.

FINALS OF SECOND FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT: Sport and solidarity for thE new "Casa di Andrea"

Technological innovation, research and development, but also constant attention to solidarity and integration - these are all part of the Finmeccanica Group, which has promoted innumerable cultural, scientific, social and sports activities over the years.
It is in this spirit that Finmeccanica is happy to announce an important event, one that includes solidarity, sport and the sense of teamwork amongst its employees.

WATOTO KENYA

The latest solidarity initiative undertaken by Finmeccanica involves looking after children in Kenya as part of a tangible commitment for responsible participation in world causes, while at the same time focusing on its business activities.
The opportunity began with the sound of music at the Christmas concert, the traditional event where all the members of the Finmeccanica team exchange greetings for the festive season.

THE NATIONAL "GIGI GHIROTTI" FOUNDATION LISTENING CENTER

THE DREAM PROJECT - creation of an anti-Aids centre in Conakry, Guinea

The acronym embraces fantasy and the power of ideals, but its existence lies embedded in the fatigue and necessity within the painful folds of reality. The Dream project (Drug Resource Enhancement against Aids and Malnutrition) addresses the spread of HIV in Africa, the continent where, according to one statistic, the virus has produced 25.8 million HIV-positive people in Sub-Saharan areas alone (64% of the world total): a disaster of epic proportions which has found a highly powerful ally in the wretched social degradation that accompanies it.

DOWN WITH GREY! - painting exhibition in support of the Dream project

The defeat of grey through colors. Down with Grey! could not be a more cheerfully symbolic title for a show which marks the overcoming of hardship by virtue of energy and hope and, in addition, teaches how overcoming one's own hardship can help to alleviate that of other people.

RECONSTRUCTION OF THE SCHOOL IN kAMALA in Indonesia

The film footages and photos, of which we have seen dozens, relate only in part the destructive power of the tidal wave which, on December 26, 2004, crashed into South East Asia, flinging into the headlines of the news reports of a terrified and alarmed planet a term which many people had never heard before: tsunami.

" LONG-DISTANCE ADOPTIONS " in Sri Lanka

It is a dramatic and unfortunately undeniable fact that children were the most severely affected by the tsunami that hit the coasts of South East Asia on 26th December 2004.
In addition, the tragedy clearly did not stop with the terrible mortality figures. Millions of people still live in emergency conditions. Many of them are children. And many of them are orphans. It is only human to look upon them as if they were our own children, regardless of distance.

LE BOURGET 2005: benefit concert at Paris's Opèra Garnier

Beyond the confines of the business, which is nevertheless its indisputable driving force, Finmeccanica's participation in the forty-sixth exhibition of the Paris Air Show also stood out for an activity of powerful, varied communication which crossed music with the areas of solidarity.
The culminating event of Le Bourget 2005 was indeed the concert which, on June 15, saw the main attraction - the Orchestra Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, directed for the occasion by the maestro Georges Prêtre.

EUROPEAN JUMPING CHAMPIONSHIP
San Patrignano, 21st - 24th July 2005

You do not need to be an expert at metaphors to realise that an obstacle race in a drug rehabilitation centre can take on strong symbolic connotations.
However, the unusual choice of the San Patrignano Community as the home for the 28th European Jumping Championship, a major event for horse riding enthusiasts, has other solid foundations

LONDON'S CHELSEA ROYAL HOSPITAL

"The King himself laid the first stone for the Chelsey home designed to house the soldiers mutilated in war".
Thus related the chronicles of the 17th century, February 1682 to be precise, regarding the initial act on a building which is beyond any definition of historic.
