Finmeccanica won orders for approximately EUR 300 million

Finmeccanica has won tree orders for a combined value of approximately EUR 300 million through his companies Ansaldo STS, SELEX Sistemi Integrati and DRS Technologies.

In particular, Ansaldo STS (STS.MI) has won the contract worth approximately EUR 180 million to operate and maintain Copenhagen's driverless metro system. The 5 year contract has an option to extend the contract for a further 3 years. Ansaldo STS thereby continues its partnership with Metroselskabet, the company that owns the Copenhagen Metro, which it first worked with in 1996 when Ansaldo STS won the tender to provide engineering, systems integration, rail electrification equipment and vehicles for the driverless metro system of the Danish capital.

SELEX Sistemi Integrati, instead, has been awarded two contracts with a combined value of approximately EUR 100 million by TELEDIFE (the Italian General Directorate of Telecommunications, IT and Advanced Technologies).

The first contract, which is worth EUR 63 million and was agreed with SELEX Sistemi Integrati as the prime contractor, will last four years and covers the supply of turnkey systems for seven radar sites and a coastal surveillance centre for the Italian navy. The new systems will enable the Italian navy to identify and classify objects and vessels with the benefit of ISAR (Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar), a state-of-the-art technology that can generate high-definition electromagnetic images. The contract also contains the chance to exercise an option worth EUR 25 million for the building of the Integrated Interministerial Maritime Surveillance Device (DIISM). The project aim is to ensure the integration and interoperability of information gathered from the control centres of numerous government bodies by creating a National Maritime Surveillance Centre (CNSM).

The second contract, worth EUR 31 million, relates to the supply by SELEX Sistemi Integrati of two RAT31DL/M mobile aerial surveillance radar systems (DADR - Deployable Air Defence Radar) for the Italian air force. The new devices, which will supplement the 12 RAT31DL stationary radars that SELEX Sistemi Integrati sold to the Italian defence administration last year, will help to introduce WiMAX technology to Italy. By replacing the radars currently used by the Italian air force, the RAT31DL systems will enable certain frequencies used by the Italian defence administration to be freed up. The mobility, transportability and autonomy of the RAT31DL/M systems means that they can also be used in out-of-area missions. The order, which will be completed within two years, follows on
from the sale of two similar systems that are already being used by the German air force.

DRS Defense Solutions, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of DRS Technologies Inc. part of the Finmeccanica Group, announced that its Intelligence, Communications and Avionics Solutions (ICAS) operation in Merrimack, NH, was awarded a $10 million contract to deliver a number of signals intelligence (SIGINT) systems.
