Integrated Defence Systems Finmeccanica offers its innovative integrated defence systems as the
solution to traditional and new defence. Finmeccanica integrated defence
systems are based on proven products and solutions and tailored to customer
requirements to implement the National Military doctrine. Finmeccanica systems integrate Command and Control capabilities, a wide
range of air, land, naval and space platforms, platform systems and weapon
systems within a global network-centric infrastructure. Country defence out of area operations, rapid force deployment, mobility and
logistic support, interoperability in joint and combined operations among
national and allied forces, interfacing with police, paramilitary and civilian
organizations for antiterrorism and urban warfare. Finmeccanica integrated defence systems are networked and properly linked to
share their knowledge. The flow of information is arranged according to a
"politicalstrategic-operational-tactical" pyramid that guarantees the
appropriate levels of authority and security. Command and Control can be organized through network-centric cells on air,
sea and fixed/mobile on land, thus implementing a multi-layered strategic and
tactical C&C structure. The structure relies upon a solid
telecommunications backbone, in which all cells are connected using the best
suited media among strategic network, wide, local and mobile subsystems. Comparable services are offered to all users, regardless of the media
selected. Building upon its unique expertise in the design of network-centric
structures, Finmeccanica creates effective and complete defence systems, thanks
to its comprehensive portfolio of products, including patrol aircraft,
helicopters, weapon systems, UAVs and UCAVs, satellites.

Homeland Security Finmeccanica, the italian leader in aerospace, defence and security offers
the most comprehensive approach to homeland security, providing leading edge
solutions based on its unrivalled multi-area technological background. Terrorism and other emerging threats have shown nations their vulnerability
to non-conventional and unexpected attacks. This challenges the defence
industry to provide solutions to fulfill the task of protecting people,
resources and cultural heritage. Leveraging the technological and industrial base of its companies,
Finmeccanica offers its customers capabilities and solutions that meet the
strategic goal of global security:
- to prevent terrorists attacks
- to reduce the vulnerability to terrorism of both population and key
assets
- to minimise damage and recovery time after an attack
Finmeccanica systems have modular architectures that match different levels
of requirements, with the capability to work standalone or within complex
networks. The systems can fulfill single or broad security tasks, independently
or within a state of the art architecture that expands into an integrated
network-centric national security system. For security systems, flexibility is
of paramount importance. Finmeccanica solutions provide the highest integration
with existing assets, guaranteeing the required net-compatibility. Finmeccanica solutions for homeland security are organized around four
pillars and rest upon a solid network-centric communications infrastructure
that allows supevisory and co-ordination activity and distribution of services
and information associated to the different levels. Security and protection of transportation Port Security - Airport Security - Security of Railway Stations Protecting transportation is a key activity intended to prevent terrorist
attacks to people and goods within national and international territories.
Thanks to its leading capacity in the development and production of
transportation platforms, systems and radars, Finmeccanica masters all the know
how and technologies needed to face this issue effectively. Protection of critical national infrastructures National simbols - Financial information flow - Power generation plants,
pipelines, dams - Electrical and Tlc networks - Hospitals and public
buildings World level competencies in the development and production of satellite
systems and sensors are a key advantage in designing solutions that reduce
vulnerability from terrorist attacks of those critical assets that support the
economy of a nation or represent its heritage and culture. Border surveillance Coastline and territorial water control - "Smart Border" Air Space
Surveillance - Illegal Immigration - CheckPoints A long tradition in military integrated systems for patrolling and
identification activities, allows Finmeccanica to offer its customers, state of
the art solutions for border surveillance, be it air, sea or land. NBC protection This activity allows monitoring the presence of NBC agents and manage all
necessary after a biologic or chemical attack NBC protection is guaranteed through the effective integration of different
platform and sensors building up integrated territory monitoring systems.

Exclusive
Economic Zone
Finmeccanica offers coastal states integrated and flexible solutions to
protect national maritime interests and natural resources in exclusive
economic zones, that extend up to 200 nautical miles from their coasts.
The EEZ is a complex scenario, with many events occurring simultaneously over
a large area. An effective management of the EEZ must be able to provide a
seamless and continuous picture and fulfil the operational tasks assigned by
the responsible authority.
Using a variety of airborne, maritime, satellite and land assets, Finmeccanica
solutions detect, identify and track targets in the area under scrutiny. This
allows operation control centres and remote assets to view and assess targets,
manage their resources, communicate with each other and, when it becomes
necessary to intervene, to make swift and secure decisions.
The UNCLOS Law of the Sea gives States sovereign that extend up to 200
nautical miles from their coasts, and in some specific circumstances even
beyond. This means the EEZ is a significant and integral part of the national
resources and contributes to the development and economical growth of any
coastal State. In turn, protecting and exploiting these natural resources,
defending traffic and safety at sea, countering illegal and hostile activities
become new challenges that coastal States must face.
Many coast guards, navies, border guards, polices, customs, maritime
authorities and government agencies know Finmeccanica as a reliable partner.
Modular and scalable architectures help meet specific EEZ requirements, with
systems that grow incrementally according to requirements, budgets and time
scale. Our solutions are also designed to integrate, when necessary, with
existing customer assets and make them fully netcompatible.
Finmeccanica solutions are built around a solid net-centric infrastructure to
bring together the best telecommunications networking and command and control
modules to connect and enable the systems, subsystems, equipment and platforms
that complete systems for EEZ protection.
Finmeccanica offers solutions that meet the maritime surveillance,
identification and intervention requirements and can integrate a wide range of
information, from both dedicated sensors and external sources including port
information, weather forecasts, satellite imagery and international databases.
Merging this data enhances the ability to fullfil control and security tasks
as well as to protect the environment and manage natural resources in the
Exclusive Economic Zone.
Finmeccanica solutions are modular and scalable. This allows customers to
integrate existing assets and expand the system gradually over time, matching
capabilities and budgets. Finmeccanica offers an unrivalled range of products
and capabilities for every aspect of the integrated EEZ system.
A proven record
Finmeccanica is the leading provider of maritime protection systems to the
Italian Coast Guard and Customs Police. With this unique experience,
Finmeccanica is an ideal partner for every coastal state.
Finmeccanica companies in 2003, started delivering the first segment of the
Italian National VTMS, one of the largest applications worldwide in this
field, with 23 Local Control Centres, 8 Area Centres and the National Centre.
The system features multiple-level command and control organisation, redundant
coverage of critical areas, integration and exchange of data/services with a
number of external (both military and civil) agencies.
Finmeccanica has been providing a number of additional assets, fully
integrated in the national system, including the successful ATR 42MP Maritime
Patrol Aircraft, AB412 and other patrol helicopters and a number of electronic
and lightweight gunnery systems for maritime patrol vessels.
