Alenia Aeronautica participates as risk sharing partner in the new A380, the world's largest commercial aircraft and the only twin-deck, four aisle airliner. Thanks to its full engineering capabilities, the company designed and manufactures a fully fitted section of the central fuselage as well as related engineering work.
The participation of Alenia Aeronautica in this Airbus programme accounts for 4% of the airframe, the highest level of participation of a European company apart from Airbus shareholders. In detail, the section - overall width 7 metres, length 23 metres, height almost 9 metres and weighing about 10 tons - is subdivided into six components (lower front, upper, 2 lateral, floor structure, rear). The work of fitting out the section involves installation of air conditioning, humidification and thermoacoustic systems.
