Integrated Capabilities Area
In today’s globalized world, challenges to national security come in many forms and governments are facing unprecedented demands to respond to ever diversifying threats. Therefore, these are challenging times for national governments called to protect citizens both from threats and the impact of major accidents or national disasters. The response to such events in a modern state requires an integrated approach at every level across agencies and institutions.
Finmeccanica is engaged across the global Defence, Security and Resilience community, helping organizations and agencies in charge of protecting people to develop innovative and co-ordinated response to the natural and man-made threats facing the world’s borders, critical infrastructures and citizens.
The Finmeccanica solutions portfolio covers all the technological Building Blocks needed to fulfil Customers Operational Requirements ranging from sophisticated air platforms and sensors to state of the art Command and Control Systems, all of which are connected through a secure and resilient communication infrastructure. We know the Building Blocks and we build the System Architecture to make them work properly providing the Customers with integrated solutions for every mission.
Modern platforms and systems today remain in service for extended periods of time. During their operational life, they will be often called upon to perform in a multitude of diverse environments, from Counter Insurgency to Homeland and Urban Security operations. In the context of asymmetric security threats, effective capability enhancement is achieved through incremental upgrades to systems, sensors and software as well as through major engineering changes or replacement. Incremental technology insertion is therefore at the heart of our Through-Life Capability Planning and Management, providing a truly cost-effective approach to meeting ever-changing threats.
The purpose of the Integrated Capabilities Area of the stand is to demonstrate example of such capabilities in an operational context.
In each area, a video describes a scenario which presents an example of an event and reaction. The operational contexts are: a counter insurgency operation (Joint & Combined Defence Operations), the surveillance of a country maritime and land border (Homeland Protection) and the security of the olympic games (Securing Major Events). A demonstration of some of the applications represented in the videos follows, with the opportunity to interact with end-users linked live with real Command and Control centres.
