Solidarity initiative "Finmeccanica for Abruzzo" launched for victims of the earthquake
Rome, 8 April 2009
Finmeccanica would like to express, in the form of a tangible contribution, its solidarity with people and colleagues hit by the recent violent earthquake in Abruzzo.
The Group has therefore launched the initiative "Finmeccanica for Abruzzo" among its employees in Italy and abroad. The initiative will also be open to external contributions and will gather funds for the victims of the earthquake. The funds collected are intended for the employees of the Group companies in Abruzzo and for the needs expressed by the region. These operations will subsequently be explained to trade union organisations, and staff and all contributors will receive regular updates.
As regards the "Finmeccanica for Abruzzo" project, substantial contributions will be received from Group Managers (around 1,500 just in Italy), who will donate a part of their Complementary Pension Fund. It can be reported that contributions are already arriving from Group companies all over the world, and in particular from France, United Kingdom and United States.
Finmeccanica has a total of 850 employees in the whole of Abruzzo and around 700 in the area of L’Aquila (that most affected by the earthquake). Companies of the Group have five plants in the province of L'Aquila: Elsacom, SELEX Galileo, Telespazio, SELEX Communications and Thales Alenia Space. Of these, the last two have been out of action since the 6 April. Technical investigations are underway in order to assess damage to plant and machinery, and to estimate the extent of the damage as well as the time needed for repair work aimed at getting the plants in the L'Aquila region up and running again.
Apart from a deduction direct from salary (at the discretion of staff), Finmeccanica has also made available a current account at BANCA INTESA SANPAOLO where it is now possible, both for Group employees and for other interested people, companies or organisations, to make donations:
