Sustainability

Dealing properly with the question of sustainability means preparing ourselves for a long journey, involving the identification of challenging goals and the inclusion of innovative ways of evaluating the decisions that we make on a day-to-day basis.

We have already made a specific commitment on this subject, first and foremost to ourselves. We look at ourselves as a company in a different, new way, learning to identify clearly the interests that are impacted by Group operations. Above all, learning to measurethe direct and indirect impact of our activities, both within the Group itself and on all our external contacts, with whom we work and compare notes on a day-to-day basis.

It is this information that allows us to talk things over with our many stakeholders on the basis of objective data, creating a clearly structured, ongoing discussion aimed at reconciling our vision with the expectations of the society in which we live, and of all those realities that allow us to remain competitive.

This kind of open-mindedness represents a change of enormous significance, which must necessarily correspond to an equivalent level of internal organisation and articulation.
An important first step towards this is the assignment of specific areas of expertise in relation to sustainability governance. 

This has resulted in creation of an important management body co-ordinating all activities either directly or indirectly connected to questions of sustainability, the highest level of which is a Strategy Committee for Sustainability, assisted by a Steering Committee that involves a cross-section of all the Group’s Central Management bodies. 

These bodies, together with the constant work of all the men and women at Finmeccanica, will allow the Group to proceed with the aim of continuous improvement of its environmental and company performance. This aim will gradually be extended to Finmeccanica’s subsidiary companies, stimulating changes both at organisational and cultural level.
