WASS
Whitehead Alenia Sistemi Subacquei (WASS) is a world leader in the Underwater Systems domain, recognized for its excellence in Integrated Systems Engineering.
Named after the Torpedo inventor Robert Whitehead, the Company was integrated in the Finmeccanica organization at the beginning of the year 1995.
WASS, with premises in Livorno, Genova and Napoli, employs high degree-qualified engineers who are responsible for the design, development, production and marketing of the products:
- Heavyweight Torpedoes: BLACK-SHARK and A184 Mod.3
- Lightweight Torpedoes: MU90 and A244/S Mod.3, through its participation (50%) in the EuroTorp Consortium together with DCNS (26%) and Thales (24%)
- Torpedo Countermeasures Systems for Submarines and Surface Ships
- Underwater Surveillance and Sonar Systems
WASS' products have been chosen and put in service by several Navies around the world.
Particularly, the last developed HWT, the BLACK-SHARK, the Company's true button-hole, has already been successfully integrated on board a wide range of submarines, with different types of Combat Systems.
More than 100 torpedoes are being manufactured and delivered to a number of major Navies in three continents. A responsive and cost-effective support to the customer's technical needs is provided, throughout the systems operational life, by means of a dedicated Logistic Support Department.
