Mission Planning (MPS)

Mission Planning Systems provide the sophisticated functionality needed to plan the operations of different flying assets according to their assigned mission; the planning information can be transferred onboard and used by the pilots and/or automatic guidance systems to carry out missions. 

Mission Planning Systems provide pilots with information including route and flight performance data, target analysis, vertical profiles, maps and imagery, threat & terrain analysis and weapon delivery plans, as well as providing the on-board systems with all the relevant set-up for sensors, communications and weapons.

The IAF-MSS is based on the core system used by the US Air Force, which has been adapted and modified to meet specific Italian requirements. 

Ad hoc modules have been developed and integrated to fulfill these requirements. An additional platform, the Italian Target Model Preparation Facility (ITMPF), provides support for Storm Shadow target modeling.
