Alenia Aermacchi

The ATR 72 MP maritime patrol aircraft has been ordered by Italy to replace its obsolete Breguet Atlantics. It has been developed by Alenia Aermacchi by integrating the Selex Galileo ATOS mission system with the ATR 72-600 airframe. 

Like its smaller ATR 42 MP predecessor, but with better performance, the ATR 72 can perform maritime patrol role including rescue, sea and coastline protection from security and environmental threats, all at extremely low operational costs. 

It can also perform personnel and cargo transport, paradropping, medical and humanitarian evacuation. With appropriate predispositions, it can be reconfigured to receive specific antisubmarine warfare systems.
