"An ethical duty and a far-sighted policy", in the words of Finmeccanica's Chairman-CEO, Pier Francesco Guarguaglini, to describe the Group's attention to sustainable development. And it is this attention to ethics and the intention to be far-sighted which form the cultural background for the decision to publish Finmeccanica's first Sustainability Report, from which the quote is taken.

It was enough to listen to the few minutes during which the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by maestro Beppe D'Onghia, gave a wonderful rendering of the classic Stille Nacht (Silent Night) to have proof that music and Christmas were the protagonists of the evening organised by Finmeccanica on December 16 at Rome's "Auditorium della Conciliazione" hosted by Gioia Marzocchi.

If the intention was to send a clear and strong message, it is quite possible that the management convention held in Milan on October27 scored a bull's-eye. Starting from the title, The New Era, which immediately showed the extent of the turning point, the event clearly indicated a different dimension of international business, a new road to travel which management, together with all the Group companies, have set their sights on in recent years.

Finmeccanica Energy Day, held on 27 October 2008, focused on ways of saving energy, and involved all employees as well as managers and site operators at Finmeccanica offices and plants. Finmeccanica's close attention to technological excellence for its core business fits in well with the efforts the Group is making to support a sustainable environment.

On October 8th in Marino (Rome), the annual meeting was held for the IED2 community (Integrated Environment for Design and Development) and the CMMI community (Capability Maturity Model Integration).
