Photographic exhibition: “A Legacy for the Future”, a history of innovation and commitment
On February, 7th 2011 Finmeccanica organised at the Italian Embassy of New Delhi the vernissage of the photographic exhibition "A Legacy for the Future". The event was attended by several key Indian institutional authorities, representatives of the Delhi diplomatic, industrial and economic environments and media.
“A Legacy for the Future” is a fascinating itinerary throughout more than 60 years of industrial history. The exhibition displays the evolution of Finmeccanica, one of the international leaders of the high-tech industry. It witnesses its commitment to continuous innovation and development of talent. It is also a tribute to Finmeccanica’s women and men. Their competence is the company key heritage and the lifeblood of its future.
The exhibition is articulated into five sections that underline important moment of Finmeccanica’s life:
From 1948 to the 50s – REBUILDING
Born after the Second World War, together with the Constitution of the Italian Republic, Finmeccanica had the task of rebuilding several important Italian industries that would contributed significantly to the national economy for the following fifty years and beyond: Alfa Romeo, Ansaldo, OTO Melara and many others.
From the 60s to 70s – REDESIGNING
During the 1960s, Finmeccanica increased its focus on the high-tech sectors and, through the creation of Aeritalia, launched the foundation of its Aerospace activities. The oil crisis of 1973 pushed the Group to redefine its strategic objectives and develop further its technological competences to become more competitive, particularly in Defence Electronics.
From the 80s to 2001 – COMPETING
In these two decades, Finmeccanica boosted its strengths in Defence Electronics and in automation of processes and services. Moreover, it acquired the helicopter activities of Agusta. By 2000, the Group was completely renewed and more competitive.
From 2002 up to now – CHANGING AND GROWING
During the most recent years, Finmeccanica experienced a deep strategic renewal and an outstanding international growth, marked by important agreements with UK’s BAE Systems and France’s Thales in the Defence Electronics and Space fields respectively, as well as the acquisition of the whole capital of the AgustaWestland joint venture.
Today, Finmeccanica is one of the world’s leading companies in the fields of Defence and Security Electronics, Helicopters, Aeronautics, Space, Defence System, Energy and Transportation. It is also one of the few Italian companies to appear on Fortune’s list of the world’s top 500 businesses. What’s more, it is one of the world’s largest investors in innovation and people’s development.
Finmeccanica & India
The presence of Finmeccanica in India goes back more than 40 years. Today the Group aspires “to partner India in its technological and industrial evolution” and to establish “broader forms of cooperation to address India’s challenges and global ambitions” (Pier Francesco Guarguaglini, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer ofFinmeccanica).
The experiences and values developed during its long history are a legacy that Finmeccanica would like share with India in a spirit of partnership.
